Abstract

This Note covers several issues that arose during software implementation of VOEvent, and presents recommendations for addressing them. Issues include a quirk in the VOEvent 1.1 schema definition that prevents schema-driven validation of much of the What section, problems with complexity of the VOEvent 1.1 schema, some departures from the standard in real-world VOEvent messages, and the variety of transport protocols currently in use. Several recommendations are made in the last section.

It is intended to share best practices, possible approaches, or other perspectives on interoperability with the Virtual Observatory. It should not be referenced or otherwise interpreted as a standard specification.
