Hi Anita, Ray et al,
I globally and fully agree with all your points and comments,
the most important one is to use the only available quite exhaustive
metadata (UCD) as a crucial use case to elaborate a more flexible
and sophisticated schema.
I am impressed by Ray's willingness to define a metadata model
to refactored the domain, and I am waiting it with great eagerness.
I was thinking about such a process and the most difficult part
for me is the mechanism to keep a link to UCD and continuing to
support them.
I tried to formalize the possible inter-relations in the attached
UML diag, (triangle at the beginning of a line is inheritance,
others lines are relations; assoc,agreg....).
Several question araise already in my mind even at this very simple level :
- Does Descriptor and Group... need to inheritate from Atom and Descriptor,
or is the association use/is_part_of sufficient? In other words, do we
need several level of composition? Group of group of Descriptors?...
- is the relation UCD/PAD formally needed?
- Which is the link between the actual UCD_Tree and all the possible
and usefull descriptors associations?
