From roy.williams at ligo.org Thu Aug 25 09:21:03 2011 From: roy.williams at ligo.org (Roy Williams) Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2011 09:21:03 -0700 Subject: Gravitational Wave Open Data Workshop Message-ID: <4E56766F.40407@ligo.org> Just a reminder of this workshop, it is Oct 27/28 in Louisiana. We welcome all astronomers! There will be a tour of the high-technology that is Advanced LIGO, as well as a chance to see beautiful New Orleans on Halloween weekend. OPEN DATA FOR GRAVITATIONAL-WAVE ASTRONOMY http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/gwodw2011/ After the first detections of astrophysical gravitational waves (after 2014), the challenge will be finding photons from the same source, through a rapid-followup program -- detection of an afterglow will lead to new insight into source astrophysics and fundamental physics. This workshop aims to bring together experts from the gravitational wave community with astronomers and open data experts in a two-day workshop to address the question: How should LIGO proceed in releasing gravitational wave data to maximize scientific return?
